I-Beam

An I-beam refers to a beam with an H-shaped cross-section. The upper flange is called the upper flange, the lower flange is called the lower flange, and the plate connecting the two flanges is called the web. The width of the upper and lower flanges is called unequal wing H-beam. H-beams are available in steel beams, reinforced concrete beams and prestressed reinforced concrete beams. The latter two are generally unequal-wing H-beams with the upper flange larger than the lower flange.
